CUMILLA — A private car struck and killed Abdul Wahab, a former union parishad member, on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Cumilla’s Burichang upazila on Monday night, police said.
The collision occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the Kabila area of the highway. Wahab, 60, was a resident of Monipur village in Mokam union and a former member of the Mokam Union Parishad. He was the son of Chamir Uddin.
Witnesses said Wahab was riding a motorcycle home on the wrong side of the road when an oncoming private car struck the motorcycle, seriously injuring him. Locals took him to Kabila Eastern Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The car fled the scene, said Iqbal Bahar, officer-in-charge of the Mainamati Highway Police Station. Police are working to identify the vehicle and pursue legal action, he said.
