LAKSHMIPUR — Chandraganj police recovered five new rifles and one locally made shotgun, known as an LG, from a graveyard in neighboring Noakhali district, authorities said.

The weapons were seized during a raid Sunday morning, Dec. 7, in the Chandraganj East Bazar area of Alaiyapur Union in Noakhali’s Begumganj upazila.

Police said the operation was carried out based on a tip. Officers recovered six paper-wrapped packets containing the weapons from the graveyard. The packets held five rifles and one shotgun.

Faizul Azim Noman, the officer in charge of Chandraganj police station, said the raid was conducted along the Noakhali-Lakshmipur border area under instructions from senior officers. Local representatives and residents were present during the operation, he said. The weapons have been formally seized. The owner of the weapons has not been identified, and police are working to determine who was involved, he said.

On Dec. 1, police uncovered an arms-manufacturing operation at a workshop in Lakshmipur’s West Chandraganj Bazar. District Detective Branch officers later raided the site and seized a pistol and a large quantity of weapon-making equipment.
