JASHORE — Three people died in separate incidents involving fire, drowning and suicide in Jashore’s Chougachha upazila on Wednesday, police said.

The deaths occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 24.

According to sources, Feksi Bala, 80, the widow of the late Kartik Paramanik Biswas of Marua village in Jagadishpur union, was warming herself by a fire with other family members Tuesday night when her sari accidentally caught fire. She was admitted to Jashore 250-Bed General Hospital with burns and died Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Hafez Abdullah, 16, an eighth-grade student of Tanzimul Ummah Cadet Madrasa in Dhaka’s Uttara, drowned in a pond owned by Omar Gazi in Niamatpur village of Patibila union. Abdullah was the son of Abdul Gani of Niamatpur village. The family lives in Narayanganj because of his father’s job. Omar Gazi said Abdullah had come to the village from Narayanganj two days earlier to visit. He went to bathe in their pond on Wednesday afternoon and lost consciousness while bathing. Locals rescued him and took him to Chougachha Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead.

Separately, Monwara Begum, 30, wife of Soleman Ali of Ballabhpur village in Sukhpukuria union, hanged herself around 10 a.m. Wednesday following a quarrel with her husband.

Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Chougachha police station, confirmed all three deaths. “Further legal action on these matters is underway,” he said.
