One more dengue death, 1,300 admitted to hospital in a day

One more person has died of dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, and 1,300 people were admitted to hospital with the disease in the same period. That brings deaths in the first nine days of this month to 50 and cases to 15,831.

The figures were given on Friday in a dengue press release from the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services.

It said that from 8am on Thursday to 8am on Friday, 141 people with dengue were admitted in Barishal division, 318 in Chattogram, 343 in Dhaka division outside the city corporations, 35 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 36 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 274 in Khulna, 69 in Mymensingh, 80 in Rangpur and four in Sylhet. In the same period 1,172 patients were discharged from hospital after recovering.

The directorate said the total number of dengue cases from January this year to date has risen to 95,451, and 295 people have died this year.

Of the deaths, two were in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June, 36 in July, 43 in August and 148 in September. Of all dengue patients so far, 62.3% are men and 37.7% women.
