Shafiqur Rahman, leader of the opposition and ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, is travelling to Turkey to take part in the Second International Conference on Bangladesh Studies at Istanbul University. He will speak at the conference as chief guest.
He left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Turkey on Wednesday morning.
Present at the airport to see him off were the party’s secretary general and former MP Mia Golam Parwar; assistant secretary general and central publicity and media secretary Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair; and central executive council member Md Mobarak Hossain.
The conference, on the theme of multidimensional perspectives on the reforms of Bangladesh 2.0 and new horizons of Turkey-Bangladesh cooperation, is organised jointly by Istanbul University and the Centre for Policy and Social Research. Academics, policymakers, diplomats, researchers and representatives of organisations from Bangladesh, Turkey and other countries will take part.
After the conference he will perform umrah in Saudi Arabia and return home on the morning of 11 October.
