A Dengue Awareness Camp 2026 has been held at Chandrima Udyan in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. Organised by the Nagar Unnayan Forum Dhaka, it was opened on Thursday morning by Mohammad Salim Uddin, Jamaat-e-Islami’s mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation and the forum’s chairman.
Speaking as chief guest, Salim Uddin, who is ameer of Jamaat’s Dhaka city north unit, said: “Dengue is now a matter of great concern for us. The media show that the government has taken various initiatives to control it. We want these initiatives to be properly monitored.”
He said: “The government says the number of hospital beds has been increased, doctors have been trained and dengue corners have been opened. We want proper monitoring of how far capacity has actually grown. It must be ensured that people get proper treatment.”
He said: “Dengue is all around us. So the government cannot control it alone. We must take responsibility too. We must keep our surroundings clean so that water cannot collect anywhere. This work has to start in our own homes.”
On the need to improve Bangladesh’s healthcare, Salim Uddin said other countries’ systems were far more advanced. Recalling a visit to Turkey, he said he had been impressed by the treatment in hospitals there and hoped Bangladesh’s healthcare would become as advanced and people-friendly in future.
He said: “We must choose leaders who can help build a beautiful country for us in the days to come.”
The programme was chaired by thana ameer Abu Sayeed Mondol and conducted by thana secretary Tariful Islam. Central Majlis-e-Shura member Hemayet Hossain and ward 27 councillor candidate Abul Kalam Azad were present.
Meanwhile, as part of a countrywide dengue prevention week, a mosquito control and public awareness programme organised by Jamaat-e-Islami was held in Mirpur.
