The 2026 Nobel Prize in chemistry has been awarded for the discovery of nonlinear effects in organic chemical reactions and the role of autocatalysis in asymmetric synthesis. This year’s laureates are the French scientist Henri Kagan and the Japanese scientist Kenso Soai.
The body that awards the Nobel Prizes made the announcement on Wednesday.
The prize, more than a century old, is awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Kagan and Soai will share 12 million Swedish kronor, equal to about $1.2 million.
Besides winning what is regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious science prizes, the two scientists will gain wide international recognition.
