The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has fined a business in Chuadanga Tk 30,000 for selling LPG gas illegally without renewing its trade licence.

The drive was carried out on Saturday (3 October) from 10:30am to 1:30pm in the Pourashava College Road area of Sadar upazila.

During the drive, run by the directorate’s Chuadanga office, officials monitored the market for LPG and essential food items. Md Muktajur Rahman Mallik, owner of Messrs Mallik Gas Ghar, was fined Tk 30,000 under the consumer rights protection act for selling LPG without renewing his trade licence.

The business was also told to renew its licence promptly and not to hoard illegally. Other traders in the area were warned to buy and sell at set and fair prices and not to sell expired, substandard or banned products, medicines or baby food.

The drive was led by the district office’s assistant director, Mohammad Mamunul Hasan, with help from Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) representative Md Rafiqul Islam and a team from the district police. He said such monitoring and drives would continue in the public interest to protect consumers and keep order in the market.
