A tribunal has issued arrest warrants against four people, including the former head of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC), Asaduzzaman, over the enforced disappearance and killing of Abul Hossain Al Amin, principal of the Ibne Masud Madrasa in Gazipur city. They have also been ordered to appear on October 22.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 gave the order on Sunday.
The other accused are the CTTC additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Ishtiaq Ahmed, the CTTC police inspector Md Asaduzzaman, the police inspector Mezbah Uddin Ahmed and sub-inspector Touhidul Islam Sumon.
Of these, ADC Ishtiaq Ahmed is under arrest. He has been ordered to appear. Prosecutor Tarek Abdullah conducted the hearing for the prosecution that day.
He said at the hearing that the accused took the principal, Abul Hossain Al Amin, from the Ibne Masud Madrasa in Gazipur on January 30, 2023, identifying themselves as detective branch police. There was no trace of him after that.
He was tortured continuously after being detained and died at one point, the prosecutor said. To conceal the death, his body was thrown into the Dhaleshwari river from the Tulsikhali bridge in Keraniganj.
He said that in the same way, between January 18 and February 18, 2023, six people were disappeared into CTTC custody, tortured for a long period and then produced in court and shown as arrested in various cases.
Tarek Abdullah applied for the charges against the accused to be taken into cognisance. The tribunal then took the charges into cognisance and issued arrest warrants against the four absconding accused. It also ordered the arrested accused, Ishtiaq, to be produced.
