Admission of pupils from class one to class five at private secondary schools will be completed through a central digital lottery. The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) will run the admission process centrally.
A source at the education ministry gave the information on Monday. The source said the new decision would be finalised shortly.
Under the decision, all admission activity for classes one to five will be completed centrally through a digital lottery. Pupils seeking admission will have to apply online through designated software, on the dates and at the times set out in the notice published by the Dhaka Metropolitan Admission Committee.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Admission Committee will centrally complete the digital-lottery admission process for classes one to five at private secondary schools across the country.
Before the lottery, the soundness of the software prepared by the selected technical institution must be verified by another government-recognised technical institution. The certificate relating to this must be preserved.
Alongside the list of pupils selected in the digital lottery, a waiting list equal in number to the vacant seats will also be prepared. If a selected pupil does not take admission within the set time, the next pupil on the waiting list must be admitted in order. The order of the waiting list must be maintained in doing so.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Admission Committee will send the list of pupils selected by lottery to the institutions concerned. The institution’s admission committee will then verify the pupils’ necessary documents and complete admission within the set time.
If any private institution teaching classes one to nine is unable to join the central online admission process for a valid reason, it may conduct admission under its own arrangements with the prior permission of the education ministry.
For schools in Dhaka metropolitan area, meanwhile, three administrative thanas adjoining the school will be designated as its catchment area. Forty percent of seats must be reserved for pupils from these catchment areas.
