China’s outgoing ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, has paid a courtesy call on the deputy speaker of the national parliament, Barrister Kaiser Kamal MP.
The courtesy call took place at the deputy speaker’s office in the national parliament building on Tuesday.
Welcoming ambassador Yao Wen, the deputy speaker recalled the long-standing friendly and multi-dimensional relationship between Bangladesh and China. Referring to his recent visit to China’s Yunnan province, he praised the warm hospitality, sincerity and cordial cooperation he had received there. He also praised China’s existing cooperation in various development activities in Bangladesh.
The deputy speaker said: we want to work together for the development of the people of both Bangladesh and China. He expressed hope for Chinese cooperation in strengthening Bangladesh’s democracy, improving the standard of living of its people, and in infrastructure development including technology and the health sector.
Noting the historic and friendly relationship between Bangladesh and China, outgoing ambassador Yao Wen said Bangladesh-China relations gained the foundation of their future friendship during the late president Ziaur Rahman’s visit to China in 1980. Recalling Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s recent visit to China, he said it would further widen the field of cooperation between Bangladesh and China. He added that the Bangladesh-China parliamentary friendship group could play an important role in further strengthening parliamentary relations between the two countries.
Both sides stressed further strengthening mutual communication and cooperation between the people of the two countries, including bilateral visits at parliamentary level, the exchange of experience and the exchange of views on various matters.
The expansion and modernisation of Mongla port facilities and the Teesta river project were also discussed at the meeting.
Outgoing ambassador Yao Wen expressed gratitude to the deputy speaker and the people of Bangladesh for the cooperation and sincerity he had received during his time in Bangladesh. He expressed the hope that the existing friendly relationship between Bangladesh and China would grow stronger in future.
At the end of the meeting the deputy speaker wished ambassador Yao Wen success and well-being in his future career and personal life.
China’s deputy ambassador to Bangladesh and senior officials concerned were present at the meeting.
