CHOUGACHHA, Jashore — The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement held a protest march in Chougachha, Jashore, against the attack by the banned Chhatra League on a National Citizen Party rally in Gopalganj.
The march set out from the Chougachha Press Club intersection on Wednesday evening, July 16, led by Rashedul Islam Ritam, an upazila leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. It moved through several streets of the town.
Participants included Mufti Shihab Uddin, general secretary of the Chougachha upazila unit of the Islamic Constitution Movement; and Hurayra bin Laam, Mahin, Sakinur Rahman Shuvo, Fazlur Rahman Rabbi, Israt Hamda Kuasha, Rifat Ahmed, Nihal Ahmed, Samrat Shakil Hossain, Sagar Ahmed, Azizur Rahman, Mahafuz Alam and Yasin Arafat of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, along with other students.
At a brief rally at the Press Club intersection after the march, speakers said those responsible for the attack on NCP leaders and workers in Gopalganj must be arrested and given exemplary punishment.
NCP central leaders had set out from Gopalganj for Madaripur on the afternoon of July 16 as part of a nationwide march. They were attacked by leaders and workers of the banned Chhatra League. An NCP rally scheduled for 3 p.m. in Madaripur did not take place because of the attack.
