CHUADANGA — A package of development works worth 83.5 million taka (about $700,000), being implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), was inaugurated in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district.

Ruhul Amin, member of parliament for Chuadanga-2 and the district chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, unveiled plaques on May 4 for one bridge and three road projects in different parts of the upazila.

“These bridges and roads have long been unusable, causing hardship to local residents,” Amin said after the ceremony. “Completing them will ease much of that suffering.”

Ashraful Islam, the upazila LGED engineer, said the package includes a 31.6-meter Balihuda twin bridge being built at a cost of 48.1 million taka; the 2,750-meter Minhajpurhat-Baidyanathpur road, costing 14.8 million taka; the 1,990-meter Raipur Bazar-Safdarpur road, at 13.9 million taka; and the 3,600-meter Khoirhudahat-Pearatala R&H road, at 6.7 million taka. The bridge has been completed and the other works are under way.

Also attending were Abdul Kader, district Jamaat assistant secretary; Sakhawat Hossain, Jibannagar upazila Jamaat naib-e-ameer; Sheikh Solaiman, officer-in-charge of Jibannagar police station; Mahfuzur Rahman, upazila Jamaat secretary; and union- and ward-level Jamaat-e-Islami activists.
