The Delhi High Court has ordered the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) account of the “Cockroach Janata Party” unblocked.
Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma’s bench issued the order on Friday (local time, June) after accepting an application filed by the party’s founder, Abhijeet Deepak.
At the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the central government, told the court that the account had been blocked over concerns that some of the party’s posts could cause confusion and disruption among students and guardians during the NEET examination.
However, the court observed that the NEET exam had already concluded, and that the government’s concern for keeping the account blocked therefore no longer had any reasonable basis.
In light of this, the court ordered the reinstatement of the “Cockroach Janata Party’s” X account.
According to a report by Indian outlet Live Law, the court found the account no longer needed to remain blocked since the exam had concluded.
