DHAKA — The government has made a major reshuffle at the top of the administration, appointing new chairpersons and directors general at 15 important government agencies in a single day.
The appointments were announced Sunday, July 27, in separate notifications signed by Md. Nur-e-Alam, a deputy secretary at the public administration ministry.
According to the notifications, the agencies that have new leadership include the Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority, the Department of Food, the National Identity Registration Wing, the National Freedom Fighters Council (JAMUKA), the Department of Environment, the Governance Innovation Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office, the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, the Department of Agricultural Marketing, the National Housing Authority, the Bureau of Non-formal Education, the Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery, the National Youth Development Institute, the Office of the Registrar General (Birth and Death Registration), the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board and the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks.
Raja Md. Abdul Hai, additional director general of the Directorate of Primary Education, has been appointed chairman of the Non-Government Teachers’ Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA). His service has been transferred to the secondary and higher education division.
Additional Secretary Md. Shafiqul Islam has been appointed chairman of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority. Islam is currently director of a project on constructing bridges and culverts of up to 15 metres on rural roads. His service has been transferred to the food ministry.
Mohammad Habibur Rahman, additional secretary at the water resources ministry, has been appointed chairman of the National Housing Authority, and his service transferred to the housing and public works ministry.
M. Jasim Uddin Khan, additional secretary at the home ministry, has been appointed the new director general of the Department of Food. His service has been transferred to the food ministry.
Dr. Md. Lutfor Rahman, additional secretary at the agriculture ministry, has been appointed director general of the Department of Environment. His service has been transferred to the environment, forest and climate change ministry.
M.M. Arif Pasha, additional secretary at the land ministry, has been appointed director general of the Department of Agricultural Marketing. His service has been transferred to the agriculture ministry.
Dil Afroze, additional secretary at the civil aviation and tourism ministry, has been appointed director general of the Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery. Her service has been transferred to the health services division.
A.S.M. Mustafizur Rahman, additional director general of the Bangladesh Employees Welfare Board, has been appointed director general of the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks. His service has been transferred to the industries ministry.
Khondaker Anwar Hossain, director at the office of the divisional commissioner of Barishal, has been appointed the new director general of the National Youth Development Institute. His service has been transferred to the youth and sports ministry.
Md. Abdullah Al-Mamun, director (additional secretary) at the Department of Disaster Management, has been appointed director general of the National Freedom Fighters Council (JAMUKA). His service has been transferred to the liberation war affairs ministry.
Kazi Mohammad Saiful Islam, additional secretary at the home ministry, has been transferred as director general of the Bureau of Non-formal Education. His service has been transferred to the primary and mass education ministry.
Md. Asaduzzaman, director at the Directorate of Government Accommodation, has been appointed director general of the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board, and his service transferred to the expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment ministry.
Abul Hasnat Muhammad Anwar Pasha, additional secretary at the planning division, has been appointed the new director general of the National Identity Registration Wing of the Election Commission Secretariat.
Delwar Hossain, additional secretary at the financial institutions division, has been appointed director general of the Governance Innovation Unit (GIU), and his service transferred to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Hasan Mahmud, additional secretary at the railways ministry, has been appointed registrar general at the Office of the Registrar General for Birth and Death Registration. His service has been transferred to the local government division.
