DHAKA — Police recovered the body of a Dhaka University postgraduate student on Sunday morning along with a suicide note naming a teacher and a classmate, both of whom have been detained for questioning.
Badda police recovered the body around 9:30 a.m. Sunday (April 26) from the ninth floor of house number 590 on Uttara Badda Purbachal Uday Mansion Lane 10. It was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The deceased was identified as Munira Mahjabin Mimo, 26, a master’s student in the 2019-20 academic year of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies. She was the daughter of Md. Golam Mostafa from Daiyarchar village in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur district.
Sub-Inspector Mosa. Fatema Siddiqua Soma of Badda police station said: “We received the report around 9:30 a.m. and recovered her body from a room in the Uttara Badda house. After completing legal formalities, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.”
Soma said the family had told police she hanged herself from a ceiling fan in her room. The deceased’s mother, Tahamina Akhter, said: “I have learned that a suicide note was recovered next to my daughter’s body. The note read: ‘Sudip sir must be paid 50,000 taka, may Hani and Sudip sir be well, return the gifts given by sir.'”
Because the suicide note named Dr. Sudip Chakraborty, an associate professor in the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, and a close classmate, police have taken both into custody for questioning.
University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said Sunday afternoon that Mimo’s body was at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue. He said she had killed herself at her home and named a teacher and a classmate in a note. The proctor said the death may have stemmed from a love triangle.
