Union council elections may be held in January next year, the election commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud has said.
He gave the information at the Election Commission’s own building on Sunday.
He said the commission had decided to step back from the preliminary election schedule announced for November 12. Holding the vote then was not possible, he said, taking into account school and college examinations in November and December, the polling centres and the duties of teachers.
He added that the commission has not yet taken a decision on announcing the schedule. The commission has also cancelled the dialogue with political parties and other stakeholders that was to have been held on September 23, 24 and 25.
