No country has reason to be concerned about Iran, unless it allows parties involved in aggressive acts against the country to use its bases, facilities or equipment, Iran’s foreign ministry said Monday.
Foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks at the ministry’s weekly press briefing, responding to a question about reports published in Western media. He was commenting after reports emerged that European countries could see US bases on their soil targeted if they take part again in aggression against Iran.
Baghaei said Iran had also heard reports that several KC-135 tanker aircraft had left Bulgaria. According to those reports, the aircraft left the European country amid firm warnings from Tehran and local protests over the prospect of any third country assisting aggression against Iran.
He said Iran had already made its position on Bulgaria clear. From the outset, he said, a section of the Bulgarian public and politicians had described allowing the use of the country’s facilities for a US attack on Iran as a violation of international law.
“We have no problem with the people of Bulgaria,” Baghaei said, while describing participation in what he called atrocities targeting the Islamic Republic as tantamount to aggression.
He said Tehran expects that countries which have in any way allowed the United States and what he called the “Zionist regime” to use their bases and facilities to carry out aggression against Iran will also take the necessary steps in response.
A stern message for collaborators
Baghaei said no country has reason to be concerned about Iran unless it allows aggressors to use its bases, facilities and equipment for the purpose of carrying out illegal and unlawful attacks on Iran.
He said Iran has the right to retaliate against the sources of any attack on its territory.
“As we have demonstrated, we will show no flexibility whatsoever when it comes to defending Iran’s territorial integrity and security,” Baghaei said.
