Police have recovered the body of a young man in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, with a wound from a sharp weapon on the right side of his chest.
The body was recovered at around 6:30am on Wednesday beside the Olympic biscuit factory in the Chengain area of Kanchpur on the Asian Highway (Dhaka bypass).
The dead man is Habibullah Sheikh Nasim, 23, son of Mosharraf Hossain and Najma Begum of the Deobhog area under Narayanganj Sadar police station. His family said he had been missing since Tuesday night.
H M Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of the Taltala police investigation centre under Sonargaon police station, said local people informed police after seeing a body lying beside the factory, and police went to the scene and recovered it. A wound from a sharp weapon was seen on the right side of his chest, he said.
Police said he was identified from an ID card found in his pocket, and his younger sister, Mili Akter, identified the body when the family arrived.
His nephew, Sifat, said Habibullah had studied at a madrasa in Deobhog, but left about a year and a half ago and began working as an electrician with his father. On Tuesday night he left home without telling anyone and never returned.
Sonargaon police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Abdul Barik said an inquest report was prepared and the body sent to the Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for post-mortem. Legal proceedings are under way, he said.
