Police have arrested villain-role actor Don Hok in the murder case over the death of Salman Shah, a popular hero of Bangladeshi cinema.
The airport police station’s officer-in-charge (OC), Kamrul Hasan Talukder, confirmed the information to the media on Sunday (9 August) afternoon.
He said immigration police first detained Don Hok in the airport area, after which a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took him into its custody. The case is now under CID investigation.
Almost 29 years after Salman Shah’s death, a court last year ordered that the case be tried as a murder case. Jannatul Ferdous Ibne Haque, judge of Dhaka’s Sixth Additional Sessions Court, passed the order.
Earlier investigation reports show that, after several agencies had investigated, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) concluded in its report that Salman Shah’s death was a suicide. That finding created controversy among his family and fans, who refused to accept it.
In response, on 21 October last year, Salman Shah’s maternal uncle Mohammad Alamgir filed a murder case at the capital’s Ramna police station, naming 11 people as accused, including former wife Samira Haque and actor Don Hok. The allegations are untested.
Although there had long been speculation surrounding the death, there had been criticism over the lack of an effective investigation. The case is now with the CID, which is taking the investigation forward. The case’s progress and Don Hok’s arrest have brought this much-discussed death back into public discussion.
