A student in Sariakandi, Bogura, who could not sit for her HSC examination because her college entered an incorrect registration number on the form has been allowed to take the exam following the education minister’s intervention, the education ministry said on Friday.
Sumaiya Akter had paid the required 3,500 taka for the examination form well within the deadline, but Chandanbaisha Degree College entered a wrong registration number, preventing her from receiving an admit card.
When the complaint reached the minister, he directed the relevant officials to take immediate corrective action and ordered exemplary punishment for those responsible. Sumaiya’s form has since been completed and she will be able to sit for the exam as a regular candidate from the following day, the ministry said.
On Thursday, Sumaiya was seen crying outside her examination center at Sariakandi Degree College after failing to receive her admit card despite waiting until the previous afternoon.
Sumaiya Akter is the daughter of the late Obaidul Haque Babu from Uttarpara village in Chandanbaisha union. She is an HSC candidate at Chandanbaisha Degree College. Her family said the college administration’s negligence was responsible for the situation.
“My father is no longer alive. My brother is working hard to support my education. But now it feels like that dream has been shattered,” Sumaiya said.
Sariakandi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sumaiya Ferdous said the college principal has been asked to submit a written report urgently, and legal action will be taken following the investigation.
