Nirmohi Akhara chief Mahant Dinendra Das has said a theft at the Ram Mandir should never have happened. “The fact that theft occurred in Ram’s home — the Ram Mandir — proves that Ravana has already reached Ayodhya,” he told The Wire.

Nirmohi Akhara is an ancient Hindu monastic organization recognized by the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad. It was a principal litigant in the decades-long Ram Janmabhoomi legal battle.

Regarding the theft, Mahant Dinendra Das said: “This is no ordinary crime. In my view, those who committed theft at Ram’s temple could even face the death penalty.”

In Hindu mythology, Ravana is the primary antagonist of the epic Ramayana — the demon king of Lanka (present-day Sri Lanka), son of sage Vishrava and the demoness Kaikesi. A devotee of Lord Shiva and a scholar of Ayurveda, Ravana was ultimately slain by Lord Ram after abducting Ram’s wife Sita.
