Two fertilizer dealers in Raninagar, Naogaon, have been fined a total of 17,000 taka by a mobile court over allegations of selling fertilizer to farmers above the government-set price.

The operation was carried out Tuesday evening at Abadpukur Bazar and Pakuria Bazar in the upazila by Executive Magistrate and Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nabila Yasmin.

Nabila Yasmin said dealers at Abadpukur Bazar had been selling fertilizer to farmers above the government-set price. Following a confidential complaint to that effect, the operation was carried out Tuesday evening at Abadpukur Bazar and the nearby Pakuria Bazar.

She said that under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, fertilizer dealer Shahidul Islam Fatik of Abadpukur Bazar was fined 12,000 taka, and Sudhir Traders in Pakuria was fined 5,000 taka.

Nabila Yasmin said the operation would continue in order to protect farmers’ interests and ensure fertilizer is sold at the government-set price.
