Police have recovered a hanging corpse of a housewife in Gangni Upazila of Meherpur. It is suspected that the suicide was due to suspicion of infidelity and family disputes. The incident took place in Hemayetpur village of Gangni Upazila on Thursday (May 10).
It has been reported that Switi Khatun (27), wife of Ansar member Ismail Hossain of Hemayetpur village in Gangni Upazila, committed suicide due to suspicion of infidelity. She committed suicide by hanging herself in her own house.
Hemayetpur Police Camp’s in-charge Atul said the husband, Ismail Hossain, is currently working in Chattogram. Suspecting his wife’s infidelity, he had restricted her movements and banned her from going to various places. In a fit of rage over the resulting family tension, Suiti chose the path of suicide.
Police have recovered the body from the scene and sent it to the 250-bed Meherpur General Hospital for autopsy.
Gangi Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Uttam Kumar, confirming the incident’s veracity, said, “Such incidents are happening due to family discord and suspicion, creating an alarming situation in society.
