A youth named Shant Islam (21) has been killed in a motorcycle accident in Cumilla’s Burichang Upazila. The accident occurred on Thursday (May 10) around 2 p.m. in the Ishapura area of the Cumilla-Burichang-Brahmanpara road. The deceased, Shant Islam, was the grandson of late Jataya of Marhua in the Sholona Union of the upazila.
According to local and family sources, Shant Islam was traveling towards Cumilla on a motorcycle. On the way, he lost control near Ishapura and the motorcycle collided with a tree beside the road. He sustained critical injuries. Later, locals rescued him and took him to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
Local resident and upazila volunteer team co-convener Ahmed Jubair and student leader Sajjad Maruf said, “Shanto Islam was involved in various businesses since his youth. He had a grocery shop in Haji Market. Shanto Islam’s ancestral home is in Banitachong Upazila of Habiganj district. His father’s name is Lal Miah.
Lutfur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boenchom Thana, said upon receiving the news, police were dispatched to the scene. After the investigation, the exact cause of death will be known.
