Four killed in Munshiganj bus-car collision

Four people including the driver have been killed in a collision between a bus and a private car at Gazaria in Munshiganj. One more person was seriously injured in the incident.

The accident happened on Saturday (September 19) afternoon in the Jamaldi bus stand area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. The identities of the dead and injured were not immediately known.

Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said word of the accident reached Gazaria fire station at 2:38pm on Saturday. On receiving the news, two fire service rescue units went to the scene and began rescue work.

He said the driver of the private car died at the scene. Fire service personnel recovered his body and handed it over to the highway police. When the injured were taken to hospital, the doctor on duty declared three more of them dead. The other injured person was sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment in a critical condition.

Fire service sources said the bus, named New Baleshwar, was heading towards Chattogram, while the private car was travelling towards Dhaka after a meal at the Miami restaurant. The casualties occurred when the two vehicles collided in the Jamaldi bus stand area. There were five people in the private car, including the driver, at the time of the accident.
