A driver named Saikat Hossain, 23, has been killed after a pickup van struck a truck parked in the Kadda area of Gazipur on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. A helper on the pickup van was seriously injured in the incident.
The accident happened on Saturday morning when the speeding pickup van lost control and struck the back of a truck parked beside the highway in the Kadda area with great force.
Saikat Hossain was the son of Anwar Hossain of Bernaiya Mollabari village in Shahrasti upazila, Chandpur.
Police said a pickup van heading towards Tangail on Saturday morning struck the back of a truck parked at the side of the road in the Kadda area with great force. The pickup was crushed and the driver, Saikat, died at the scene.
The identity of the injured helper on the pickup van was not immediately known. He was admitted to hospital in a serious condition. Police went to the scene on hearing of the incident and took both the truck and the pickup van into their custody.
Konabari police station’s assistant sub-inspector, Abbas Uddin, confirmed the incident and said the body had been recovered and sent to the morgue at Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
