Moheshpur police in Jhenaidah have arrested a drug dealer and seized 20 yaba tablets during a special anti-narcotics operation. A second suspect in the case managed to escape.
According to police, a special team from Moheshpur police station was carrying out an operation late on the night of August 23 to serve arrest warrants and recover narcotics in the area. Acting on a tip that several people were positioned to sell drugs on the paved Moheshpur-Jamtala road in the Azampur Mondolpara area of Azampur union (Ward 12), the team went to verify the report and arrived at the scene around 8:15 p.m. Two individuals attempted to flee on foot upon noticing the police presence.
With the help of accompanying personnel, police caught one of the two, identified as Md Asif, 20, son of Rabiul Islam of Azampur, red-handed. The second suspect, identified as Md Rana, 25, son of Habibur Rahman of Azampur (Khan Para), managed to escape. In the presence of local independent witnesses, police searched Asif and recovered 20 light-pink yaba tablets from his trouser pocket, preparing a seizure list and confiscating the evidence.
A case has been filed against the arrested and the fugitive suspect at Moheshpur police station under Sections 36(1) Table 10(a)/41 of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018 (Case No. 33, dated August 24, 2026). Legal proceedings are under way to produce the arrested suspect before the court, and efforts to arrest the fugitive are continuing.
Moheshpur police said such special operations and zero-tolerance action against drugs would continue as part of efforts to build a drug-free district.
