COX’S BAZAR — The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested four active members of a notorious robbery gang led by Fazl Kader, recovering weapons and ammunition during an operation in Cox’s Bazar’s Maheshkhali, officials said.
Lt. Cmdr. Sabbir Alam Sujan, the Coast Guard’s media officer, confirmed the arrests Friday morning, May 8.
Acting on intelligence that members of the Fazl Kader gang were operating in the Dholghata Nasirdail area of Maheshkhali, Coast Guard Station Maheshkhali launched a special operation around 9 p.m. Thursday, May 7, Sujan said.
Four active members of the gang were detained during the operation. A subsequent search of their homes, based on information they provided, recovered two locally made firearms, three rounds of live ammunition and five other locally made weapons, according to the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard said the arrested men are residents of the Maheshkhali area and have long been involved in robberies as active members of the Fazl Kader gang.
The seized weapons, ammunition and the suspects were handed over to Maheshkhali police station for further legal action.
