NAOGAON — Police in Raninagar upazila have filed a rape case and arrested a 40-year-old man accused of raping an 11-year-old fourth-grade schoolgirl, authorities said.
The girl’s father filed the case Thursday night, May 7. Officers arrested the accused, Abdur Razzaque, the same night, police said.
Razzaque is the son of Mojibor Rahman of Dhopapara village in the upazila.
Citing the complaint, Raninagar police officer-in-charge Zakaria Mondal said the child had gone home for the tiffin break from a local government primary school in a remote area of the upazila on the afternoon of May 2. On her way back to school after eating, Razzaque lured her into his home and raped her, the officer said.
The girl told her family what had happened after returning home, Mondal said. She fell ill and was admitted to Naogaon Sadar Hospital. Her family went to the police station Thursday night to file the rape case, and the accused was arrested the same night.
Mondal said Razzaque was sent to court Friday, May 8. The girl has been sent to Naogaon Sadar Hospital for a medical examination, he said.
