ADB pledges support for Bangladesh Bank’s financial-sector reforms

The Asian Development Bank has expressed interest in continuing support for reforms, restructuring and recapitalization of Bangladesh’s banking sector and for strengthening the stability and capacity of the wider financial sector.

ADB vice-president Yingming Yang led a delegation in a meeting with Bangladesh Bank governor Mostaqur Rahman at the central bank headquarters on Thursday. They discussed reforms and possible ADB cooperation. The governor reiterated Bangladesh Bank’s commitment to implementing necessary reforms, while Yang welcomed that commitment and said ADB support would continue.

Both sides agreed to deepen cooperation to build a stronger, stable and sustainable financial sector. Deputy governors Mohammad Habibur Rahman and Dr Mohammad Kabir Ahmed and senior officials also attended.
