Auto-rickshaw driver dies fixing dish cable after wife is shocked in Cumilla

CHOUDDAGRAM, Bangladesh — A 32-year-old auto-rickshaw driver died of electrocution while repairing a television dish cable at his home in Cumilla’s Chouddagram, shortly after his wife was injured the same way.

Ismail Hossain, 32, who drove a battery-powered auto-rickshaw, collapsed after being shocked, the family’s neighbor Abdul Haque confirmed on Tuesday. Neighbors rushed him to the upazila health complex, where emergency doctors pronounced him dead.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Monday, May 4, at Mollah Kona in the Senerkhil area of the municipality.

According to local sources, Ismail lived as a tenant with his wife Rabeya and their children at Abul Hashem’s house in Mollah Kona, Senerkhil village. On Monday evening, Rabeya was repairing the dish cable when she was shocked and screamed in pain. Ismail rushed her to the upazila health complex for initial treatment and then brought her home.

A short while later, Ismail began work on the same dish cable. He too was electrocuted and collapsed. Neighbors took him to the upazila health complex, where emergency doctors pronounced him dead.

He was buried on Tuesday afternoon following funeral prayers.

Bayezid Hossain, an emergency physician at the Chouddagram Upazila Health Complex, said Ismail had died of electrocution before reaching the facility.
