New opportunities for joint cooperation in information technology, cybersecurity, and fintech have emerged as Bangladesh and Lithuania look to strengthen bilateral trade relations. The matters were discussed in detail at a meeting between Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir and Lithuania’s non-resident ambassador to Bangladesh, Diana Mickeviciene, aimed at expanding the two countries’ commercial ties.
The meeting, held Sunday at the Ministry of Commerce in the Secretariat, covered the two countries’ economic potential, investment cooperation, and various aspects of partnership in the technology sector. Commerce Ministry Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan was also present.
At the meeting, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said that while current trade volumes between Bangladesh and Lithuania remain limited, there is significant scope to expand cooperation between the two countries. He said Lithuanian technology firms could leverage Bangladesh’s rapidly growing ICT sector, skilled young workforce, and freelancer capacity to expand their operations into the South Asian market.
He said Bangladesh is currently a promising investment destination, with necessary facilities ensured for investment withdrawal and profit repatriation. He said Bangladesh offers a stable and investment-friendly environment for international investors.
Lithuanian Ambassador Diana Mickeviciene said Lithuania is among the world’s leading countries in laser technology, GovTech, and fintech services. She said Lithuania is eager to share its experience and technical cooperation to strengthen Bangladesh’s digital transformation, technological development, and cybersecurity.
She further said that effective partnership between the public and private sectors of the two countries would open new doors in technology, innovation, and investment.
The meeting emphasized taking swift, effective steps to expand trade between Bangladesh and Lithuania, increasing business-level contacts, and pursuing joint ventures in technology-driven sectors.
