A 30-year-old man, Abdul Aziz, has been stabbed to death by a rival in Daulatpur, Kushtia. The killing took place around 9 pm on Wednesday at the Mathurapur bus stand market in the upazila. The victim was the son of Khilafat Ali of the Mathurapur Dargatala area.
According to police and local sources, a dispute arose over an online application for a VGF (destitute-allowance) card and over local dominance between Palash, 28, the son of Rafikul Islam of the Mathurapur Collegepara area, and Bijoy, the son of Akram, along with his friend Aziz. Following this, while the two friends Bijoy and Aziz were at the Mathurapur bus stand market, their rival Palash went to the scene armed and attacked them, police said.
Palash stabbed Aziz in the abdomen, seriously wounding him, police said. Local people rescued him, but he died on the way to Kushtia General Hospital. As tension spread in the area, Daulatpur police reached the scene and brought the situation under control.
Daulatpur police station OC Nazmul Huda said one person had been killed in a stabbing by a rival over an online allowance card, and that the situation was now under control. The body has been sent to the morgue, and operations are under way to arrest those involved in the killing, he said. Those named have not been tried in court.
