Saifuddin Ahmed, an associate professor in the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at Dhaka University (DU), has resigned from his post as Proctor. He submitted his resignation letter to the Vice-Chancellor around 2 p.m. today, Thursday.
Ahmed informed the media about this development around 4 p.m. this evening. He said, “I have been working as the university’s Proctor for a long time. I have served during a period of risk and uncertainty in the administration. Now, the university is much calmer, and everything is in a more balanced state.”
He further added, “The role of the Proctor carries a lot of responsibility. I want to be free from these responsibilities for a while, so I have decided to resign.”
In response to a question, Ahmed clarified that there was no external pressure; he was stepping down due to personal reasons.
Previously, Ahmed had taken up the position of Proctor on August 28, 2024, following the fall of the Awami League government.
