Police have arrested two alleged drug dealers with 80,360 pieces of yaba specially concealed at Chaumuhani in Begumganj upazila, Noakhali. A jeep used to transport the yaba was also seized. The recovered yaba has an estimated market value of about Tk 2.5 crore.
Noakhali superintendent of police (SP) N M Nasiruddin gave the information at a press conference on Thursday (16 July) afternoon.
Earlier the same day, at dawn, they were arrested in an operation in front of the Rupsha Shopping Complex in the Karimpur area of Chaumuhani municipality in the upazila.
Those arrested are Md Parvez, 42, son of the late Mozaffar Ahmed Sikder of Itmuni Hetalia Para in Purba Boro Behula union of Chakaria upazila, Cox’s Bazar, and Md Biplob, 48, son of Sheikh Chan Mia of the same village.
Police said the operation was conducted, on the basis of secret information, under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police (Begumganj Circle) ANM Imran Khan and Begumganj Model police station’s acting officer-in-charge (OC) Shamsuzzaman. During the operation, a suspicious black jeep was searched and a consignment of yaba, hidden by a special method inside the rear right-hand door, was recovered.
According to police, a total of 80,360 yaba pills were kept in 196 blue zip-lock poly bags inside 41 packets wrapped in white scotch tape.
SP N M Nasiruddin said a case had been filed in the incident under the Narcotics Control Act, and the process of sending the two arrested men to jail through the court was under way. He added that there are nine cases against the arrested Parvez at various police stations across the country, on narcotics and other charges.
