RAB-11 has arrested Shahparan alias Rudra, 27, a fugitive named in the FIR of the much-discussed murder case of Atikur Rahman Shiblu, 29, at Chatkhil police station in Noakhali. He was later handed over to Chatkhil police station.

RAB-11 senior assistant superintendent of police Mithun Kumar Kundu confirmed the information in a press release on Thursday (16 July). He had been arrested earlier, on Wednesday (15 July) afternoon, from the Sonaimuri police station area.

Shahparan, the arrested man, is the son of Md Rabiul Alam Chowdhury of the Sahapara area of Noakhla union in Chatkhil upazila, Noakhali.

According to RAB-11’s Noakhali camp, acting on secret information, a RAB team conducted an operation around 4pm on Wednesday in front of the Baitul Aman Jame Mosque in the Amishapara Barahinagar area under Sonaimuri police station, and was able to arrest the long-absconding accused Shahparan alias Rudra.

According to the case statement and a preliminary review, Atikur Rahman Shiblu — a Qatar expatriate and son of Mostafizur Rahman, 56, of Chatkhil upazila — left home on the night of 22 February 2025 without telling anyone. The next day, around 1:45am on 23 February, a call was made from Shiblu’s mobile to his father, saying his son was lying injured on the road west of the Heaterline shop.

When Shiblu’s father went to the spot and found no one, he called back the number, and the prime accused said he was bringing Shiblu. Shortly afterwards, the prime accused dragged the injured Shiblu in front of his father and quickly fled, the statement says. Bloodied, Shiblu cried out that the accused had broken his left hand.

In a critical state, he was first taken to the Chatkhil upazila health complex and then to Noakhali Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

A murder case was later filed at Chatkhil police station, after which the accused went into hiding. Finally, through RAB-11’s intelligence surveillance, it was possible to arrest Shahparan, one of the accused in the case, more than a year later.
