Dhanmondi police station’s sub-inspector S M Abdul Gafur said police went to the scene at around 6:30am after receiving a report through the 999 emergency line. After the body was recovered, the identity was confirmed from a national identity card in the pocket. His wife, Shahana Jabin Khan, was then informed using Jabed’s mobile phone. She went to the scene and identified her husband’s body.
Police said the cause of Jabed’s death has not yet been established. Whether it was murder, suicide or accidental death by falling into the water will be known after the investigation and the post-mortem report.
Sub-inspector S M Abdul Gafur said the body had been sent to the morgue at Dhaka Medical College for a post-mortem examination after the legal formalities. No visible marks of injury were found on the body in the inquest report, although the report did note abnormal swelling. On this, Jabed’s wife told police that he had been unwell for four or five months, which was why he was in that physical condition.
Family members said Jabed had been out of work for a long time. He was under mental strain because of financial hardship.
Jabed’s permanent address is house 122 on road 13 in Banani in the capital. He was currently living with his family at house 556/67 on road 1 in block I of the Bashundhara residential area. His father’s name is Salauddin Ahamed.
