10 Awami League activists detained preparing for Dhanmondi march

Police have detained 10 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations from the capital’s Dhanmondi. They were held at around 6 a.m. on Monday from Satmasjid Road while preparing for a flash march, police said. The detainees were aged between 20 and 40.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media and Public Relations division, Niaz Mehedi, confirmed the matter. He said that, acting on secret information at around 6 a.m. on Monday, police had carried out an operation and arrested 10 active Awami League workers red-handed while they were preparing for a flash march on Dhanmondi’s Satmasjid Road.

According to police, 15 caps bearing the Juba League monogram, eight T-shirts carrying photographs of leaders and activists, and a banner reading ‘Sheikh Hasina will come, Bangladesh will smile’ were recovered from them. Two buses and a private car used to carry the detainees were also seized.
