Iran is getting back six billion dollars frozen in Qatar as part of a preliminary agreement with the United States, the Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported on Sunday.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed the information, saying all the terms of the memorandum of understanding had gone in Iran’s favour. The major success of the talks and the understanding, he said, would soon become clear to everyone.
Pezeshkian said that the things US President Donald Trump had, in his recent speech, told Iran not to do had in the end been recognised as the rights of the Iranian people. He said with confidence that the six billion dollars held in Qatar would certainly be returned.
Referring to the talks under way in Switzerland over the deal, he also took a jab at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. If anyone was most displeased by the talks, Pezeshkian said, it was Netanyahu.
The United States’ main demand had been that Iran not build a nuclear bomb. On this, the Iranian president recalled the words of their ‘martyred leader,’ saying: ‘Our martyred leader said again and again that we do not want a nuclear bomb. The United States only asked us to put it in writing and sign it, and we signed it.’
