Iran’s top clerics have called for the killing of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, designating them “mahdur al-dam” — meaning their blood may be legitimately shed — the New York Post reported.
In a 10-point statement, Iran’s 88-member Assembly of Experts said killing “the evil prime minister of the Zionist regime and the criminal American president” is a religious duty that must be carried out “under any circumstances.”
The Assembly of Experts is constitutionally responsible for selecting and overseeing Iran’s supreme leader. The statement also declared that avenging the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is of the highest importance.
The statement said that any person in a position of responsibility who gains access to these individuals is obligated to “send them to hell.”
Iran’s Hamshahri daily published a front-page report with an image of Trump’s face placed inside a rifle crosshair under the headline “Revenge is certain.”
The statement also said the ongoing ceasefire negotiations are a US tactic to buy time for a renewed attack. Iran’s religious leaders said the possibility of a new offensive is very high and that matters outlined in the 14-point memorandum of understanding signed between the US and Iran must be settled within the stipulated 30- and 60-day timelines.
The clerics called on Iran’s supporters to take to the streets “in the name of the leader,” saying their presence is essential and decisive.
