A video broadcast on Iranian state television has threatened to kill Barron Trump, the youngest son of US President Donald Trump. The video hints at possible locations and methods for killing Barron Trump and mentions a $10 million reward. The matter has come to the attention of the US Secret Service.
Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring told CNN on Tuesday, August 25: “We are aware of the video. We investigate any matter that could be considered a threat toward anyone under our protection. However, for security reasons, we do not discuss such intelligence information in detail.”
The roughly three-minute video opens with an English-language graphic reading, “Where to kill Barron Trump?” It then shows graphics of various locations where Barron is known to travel publicly, including Trump Tower in New York. At the end of the video, a narrator says people are eagerly awaiting the chance to claim the $10 million reward.
The video was aired over the weekend by Iran’s state broadcaster, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB). The organization is considered closely linked to the country’s hardliners, and its chief is directly appointed by Iran’s supreme leader.
A US federal law enforcement official told CNN the video is part of a series released from Iran targeting Trump and his family members. These videos have also included information on the movements of the president’s family members and suggestions for killing them.
The official further said security arrangements for the president and his family are regularly adjusted and coordinated based on intelligence from the Secret Service, other government agencies, local police and security information received from various countries.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
President Trump had previously spoken publicly about Iranian threats to his life. Speaking at a NATO summit in Turkey in July, he said: “I’m on some list somewhere… maybe I’ve been a little lucky so far, but that might not last much longer. These are evil, sick-minded people.”
Ahead of those remarks, a secret plan had been drawn up for Trump’s travel because of the Iranian threat. Following the threat, he was moved out of Turkey on an alternate military aircraft. The entire process was carried out with extreme secrecy.
The United States has repeatedly warned that Iran could attempt to assassinate Trump ever since top Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani was killed on Trump’s orders in 2020.
In July this year, at a mourning gathering held after the death of Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, posters calling for Trump’s assassination were displayed. A cash reward was also publicized there to guarantee revenge for his death.
