A father was tied to a pole in a market. A crowd stood around him. Pushing through the crowd, his little daughter ran to him. She then bought bread and tea from a shop and fed her father with her own hands.

The scene of the daughter’s affection for her father drew the attention of those present. A video of the moment later spread on social media.

The incident took place at Bamrail Bazar in Barishal’s Uzirpur upazila. Late on Friday night, September 25, local people detained a young man named Anik Sardar on allegations that he had tried to steal from a shop. He was later tied to a pole in the market.

On Saturday morning, September 26, his little daughter came to the market to see her father. Seeing him tied to the pole, she bought bread and tea from a shop. She then fed him with her own hands.

A local young man recorded the incident on a mobile phone. After the video spread on social media, it drew various reactions.

Local residents said the theft allegation should be investigated and resolved legally. However, the way the girl rushed over after seeing her father tied to a pole, brought food and fed him caught the attention of many people present.

Local sources said Anik Sardar was released into the custody of his guardian around 9am on Saturday after giving a written undertaking.

Uzirpur Model Police Station officer-in-charge, investigation, Faruk said that after receiving information that someone had been detained over a theft allegation, a decision had been made to send a mobile team to the scene. Later, locals released the man after taking a written undertaking from him.
