1 killed as two sides clash over dominance in Kushtia

A man named Halim was killed in a clash between two sides over establishing dominance in Kushtia Sadar upazila. Another person was critically injured in the incident.

The clash took place on Saturday morning, September 26, in Khayerpur village of Alampur union in the upazila.

Police and local sources said there had long been a dispute between the Mannan group and the Yusuf Member group over dominance in the area. Following that dispute, the two sides clashed around 7am on Saturday. Halim was critically injured in the clash. He was later taken to Kushtia General Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. Another person critically injured in the incident is undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital.

Alampur police camp assistant sub-inspector Faridul Islam said the clash took place between the two sides over a long-running dispute. A man named Halim was killed. Police have been deployed in the area after the incident and are working to keep the situation under control.

Dr Md Iqbal Hasan, emergency medical officer at Kushtia General Hospital, said, “One injured person has been admitted to the hospital after the clash. His condition is not out of danger. In the same incident, another person named Halim was brought to the hospital dead. His body has been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy.”
