300 cotton farmers in Chuadanga receive incentive supplies

Seeds, fertiliser and other agricultural inputs have been distributed free among 300 small and marginal farmers in Chuadanga Sadar upazila to encourage cotton cultivation.

The Cotton Development Board’s Chuadanga zone organised the programme at the Sadar upazila parishad auditorium on Thursday morning. Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tithi Mitra inaugurated it.

S M Ejazul Islam, chief cotton development officer of the Cotton Development Board, said 300 of the 750 registered cotton farmers in Sadar upazila are being given incentives worth 240,000 taka this time. Each farmer is receiving hybrid cotton seed, various fertilisers and pesticides worth about 8,000 taka.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Anisur Rahman and Dr. Tasdiqur Rahman Sonet, an entomologist for the Cotton Development Board’s Jashore region, were among the officials present.

Farmers receiving the support said it would reduce the cost of cotton cultivation and encourage them to expand their acreage.
