The United States has imposed sanctions on four Indian companies over their ties to Iran and allegations of purchasing crude oil from the country.

The move was announced in a US State Department statement on Monday.

The four companies placed under sanctions are Portes Partners LLP, Sadashiv Overseas Limited, PR Softtech Private Limited, and Prakritis Infra Impex India Private Limited.

The State Department statement said the companies are involved in importing, storing, transferring and selling oil from Iran, and have also played a role in helping Iran export oil.

‘Operation Economic Outcast’

The sanctions are part of the United States’ ongoing economic campaign against Iran, which the US administration has named “Operation Economic Outcast.”

Under Washington’s policy, individuals and entities anywhere in the world found to be connected with Iran’s military or energy sector will face sanctions. The action against the four Indian companies is being viewed as part of that policy.

US President Donald Trump had earlier announced the launch of the economic campaign against Iran on August 19. In a post on his own social media platform, Truth Social, he said his administration had given Iran numerous opportunities and concessions to reach a deal, but since Iran refused to agree to one, his administration was launching “the most devastating economic campaign” against the country.

Trump said this would amount to economic warfare, and that as a result, Iran would become isolated from the international community to an unprecedented degree.

Trump also warned countries cooperating with Iran, saying that any country that helps Iran through financial institutions, trade, airports or state entities would also face serious economic consequences.

He also spoke of shutting down assistance to Iran carried out through oil smuggling, barter trade, cash transfers, currency exchange hubs, ship registration and shell companies.

According to US authorities, customs brokerage firm Portes Partners played a direct role in supplying large volumes of Iranian petrochemical products to India. The same sanctions have also been imposed on the firm’s two partners, Idrismiya Ashrafmiya Sheikh and Harish Ramchandra Rangi. Among the other companies, Sadashiv Overseas imported roughly $69 million worth of Iranian petroleum products between February 2024 and June 2025. PR Softtech imported roughly $25 million worth of petrochemical products over the same period, bringing the company’s director, Prashant Garg, under sanctions as well.

Prakritis Infra Impex, meanwhile, imported $25 million worth of Iranian goods between May 2023 and February 2026.

The US said the primary goal of the action is to completely cut off Iran’s revenue from oil and petrochemical exports.

Under the sanctions rules, all assets belonging to these companies located in the United States or under the control of any US citizen will be frozen, and all transactions with them will be prohibited in principle.
