700,000 people affected by Chittagong floods: finance minister

About 700,000 people have been affected by floods in Chittagong, finance and planning minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said, adding that relief had already been distributed among 100,000 people and that rehabilitation of those affected had also begun. He was speaking on Friday morning while distributing relief among flood victims in Chittagong’s Patenga area.

The minister said rice, cooked food and dry food were being distributed among the flood-affected, that rehabilitation work had started, and that government assistance would continue until it was fully complete. Noting that many roads had been damaged by the floods, he said instructions had already been given for their quick repair and work had begun on some. After distributing relief, the minister left Patenga for Chandanaish, and was to distribute relief among flood victims in other areas of Chittagong, including Satkania, Lohagara and Banshkhali.
