An elderly woman named Gouri Rani, 65, has been killed after being hit by a vehicle in Gazipur.
The accident happened at around 8:30am on Wednesday (September 30) near the rail crossing on Rajbari Road in the city.
She was the wife of Narayan Chandra Das of the Gendaria area of Dhaka and lived with her children in the Board Bazar area of Gazipur city.
According to police and her family, Gouri Rani came from Board Bazar to Gazipur town at around 8:30am on Wednesday to buy medicine. While she was crossing the road near the Rajbari Road rail crossing, an unidentified vehicle hit her and sped away, leaving her critically injured. Police and local people took her to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
Gazipur Sadar police station officer-in-charge Aminul Islam said the unidentified vehicle is being traced and legal action will be taken.
