Jamuna Bank PLC has joined Bangladesh Bank’s Tk 100 billion refinancing scheme aimed at ensuring the country’s food security, boosting agricultural production, and further energizing the rural economy. A participation agreement was signed between Bangladesh Bank and Jamuna Bank on August 16 to this end.
Under the three-year revolving refinancing scheme, financing will be available for various activities in the agriculture and rural sector. These include crop production, fisheries, livestock, agricultural and irrigation equipment, and other rural income-generating activities.
Under the scheme, farmers and customers can access loans or investment facilities at a maximum simple interest rate of 8 percent. A K M Saidujjaman, director of Bangladesh Bank’s Agricultural Credit Department-2, signed the agreement on behalf of Bangladesh Bank.
Jamuna Bank Deputy Managing Director and CRO Md Shahidul Islam and Head of the Agricultural Loan Unit Md Abu Bakar Siddique were present at the event on behalf of Jamuna Bank. Also present were Bangladesh Bank Agricultural Credit Department Joint Director-2 Md Sakhawat Hossain and Additional Director Rafia Sultana.
Through this initiative, Jamuna Bank aims to ensure easier financing for the country’s farmers and rural entrepreneurs, while playing a more effective role in boosting agricultural production, creating employment, and building a sustainable rural economy.
