Opposition leader proposes Iran set up world-class hospital in Bangladesh

The Leader of the Opposition, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, has proposed that Iran set up a world-class hospital in Bangladesh. The Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami made the proposal on Wednesday during a meeting with Iran’s ambassador to Dhaka, Dr Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, at his office in the parliament building.

According to a Jamaat statement, the meeting discussed forming a parliamentary friendship group between the two countries, direct Tehran-Dhaka flights and medical tourism. The Leader of the Opposition expressed condolences for all Iranian citizens killed in the war. The ambassador, for his part, praised Jamaat’s constructive and intellectual work as an ideology-based political party.

The Jamaat ameer thanked Iran for signing a peace agreement to expedite the ceasefire. He praised Iran’s constructive role in advancing the peace talks and expressed the hope that the agreement would remain in effect.

The Iranian ambassador conveyed his country’s interest and expectation in taking the relationship to a new height through increased trade, education, culture and people-to-people engagement between the two countries. He reaffirmed the Iranian government’s goodwill in expanding mutual cooperation in various fields, including Bangladesh’s development.

Also present at the meeting were the Leader of the Opposition’s foreign-affairs adviser, Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, MP; member Ali Ahmad Mabroor; the First Counsellor of the Iran embassy, Esrafil Amiri Gorjaddini; and the Iran cultural counsellor, Mahdi Molars.
